Democrat and Chronicle: ICE detention center guards in Batavia NY used force improperly: audit

Recent federal audits reveal that guards at an ICE immigration detention center in upstate New York improperly used force against individuals held there. 

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights’ Director of Strategic U.S. Litigation Sarah Gillman said, “The inappropriate use of force that was found in the audit are consistent with what the people who were actually detained in the facility have been saying. I think it just reaffirms that what they are saying is accurate.” She added, “The use of force is just something that has been prevalent there for a very long time.”

The inspection additionally found inadequate access to medical care and translation services, as well as the pervasive use of solitary confinement.
