Watch ‘Human Rights During Conflict—Investigating Conflict-Related Sexual Slavery’
Without acknowledging its use of conflict-related sexual violence against women during World War II, Japan can’t move forward, and survivors and their families can’t meaningfully heal from the historical harm it caused, according to Dr. Jongwoo Han, President of the Korean War Veterans Digital Memorial Foundation Foundation. In this speaker series event, moderated by lead educator Mona Al-Hayani, Han shares the history of “comfort women,” emphasizing the importance of education in healing from the past and preventing harm in the future. In February of 2022, Kateryna Yushchenko, former First Lady of Ukraine and board member of Nizami Ganjavi International Center spoke with RFKHR about the potential invasion of Ukraine, but said she remained hopeful that war would be averted. In this one year follow-up, Kateryna details the impacts of the continued war in Ukraine and discusses the human rights issues caused by the conflict as well as the resiliency of the Ukrainian people.
