This year, we’re proud to honor Guerline Jozef, executive director and co-founder of the Haitian Bridge Alliance, at this year’s Human Rights Award ceremony on October 27 in San Diego, CA. The Haitian Bridge Alliance is a leader in the immigration movement and the only Black and Haitian woman-led organization providing crucial services and advocacy at the US-Mexico border.

Guerline’s work comes at a crucial time when Haiti is in a state of crisis. In the last four months, the country has experienced a number of major tragedies including the assassination of Haiti’s president in July, a devastating earthquake in August that killed thousands of people and left hundreds of thousands homeless, and Tropical Depression Grace just two days later.

Despite these dangerous conditions, the Biden Administration is deporting Haitian refugees from the United States en masse. Since September 19th, ICE has sent at least 76 deportation flights to Haiti, expelling over 8,200 people, including babies, pregnant women, and children.

The Administration's excuse for ignoring the right to asylum is Title 42. Biden is using this draconian Trump-era policy to forcibly deport vulnerable asylum-seekers under the pretense of protecting public health. Meanwhile, public health experts, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, have fully debunked this racist notion.
