Emergency Bail Out Action
Chicago, IL

With COVID-19 spreading rapidly across prisons around the world, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and local partners have been moving to facilitate emergency bail outs at jails across the country, including Chicago's Cook County Jail.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, in partnership with the Chicago Community Bond Fund, has been conducting a series of bail outs at the Cook County Jail—a step that will limit the spread of the deadly disease among those incarcerated and jail staff, and ultimately, surrounding communities.

While the global health crisis has intensified the need to reduce jail populations, RFK Human Rights president Kerry Kennedy has long called for reforms to unlawful cash bail systems across the country, recognizing that the unnecessary incarceration it causes remains a racial justice issue.
