Voices From Kumarakapay

Following a series of massacres in Kumarakapay and Santa Elena de Uairén in February 2019, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and Foro Penal traveled to South America for a fact-finding mission gathering testimonies from Venezuelan survivors and witnesses alongside the Brazilian border.

These rural indigenous communities were targeted and attacked by Venezuelan armed forces under orders from Nicolás Maduro in an attempt to stop humanitarian aid from coming into Venezuela from Brazil, a move he considered to be part of a coup plot against him.

The following report details and documents interviews with several dozen survivors and witnesses of those violent acts who were forced to flee to Brazil to seek medical attention and safety.
