Statement Before the House Subcommittee on Natural Resources and Power, Syracuse, New York

August 19, 1966

Syracuse, NY

There is no easy solution to our water pollution problems. Municipal sewage treatment can be accomplished with concerted action and energy. But it must be accompanied by effective action to control industrial pollution. They are mixed so that either one will defy solution by itself. We can restore the quality of our environment so that our cities and towns are good places in which to live. Water pollution control is an important part of this task; but we must act now for to wait is to fall behind.

New year, new us. Same mission.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is rebranding to honor the legacy of our founder and hero, Mrs. Ethel Skakel Kennedy. From now on, we will proudly be known as the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
