What motivates you to be a changemaker in your community?

The one light that has always kept me going and motivated me to be a change-maker in my community is my deep love for this world and those who inhabit it. We all deserve community and a future worth living and I’ve realized, the only way to get it is by choosing to turn that love into action and never standing down.

My Capstone
Capstone Focus Area: Social Justice Advocacy

My capstone project, “Do You Know the Power of Your Dollar: Through a Political Lens” aims to investigate and engage students of Hampton University with workshops, informational sessions, and hands-on activities surrounding the lifecycle of a single dollar bill throughout the political process and how we have the power to shift this cycle. I hope to bring awareness to how our dollars flow through the economy and how they can be used as a tool for activism or how historically and even currently they are weaponized against our better interests domestically and internationally. I would introduce or reacquaint students with the history and importance of effective widespread boycotting, as a political tool and its role in shaping the political sphere. In exploring this, I would like to shed light on how specifically our dollars are dispersed and utilized by our government, corporate entities, and even our states and localities.
