I would be a penguin because Penguins are extremely community-oriented.
What motivates you to be a changemaker in your community?
I am motivated to be a changemaker in my community because of my family. Both my parents made it out of communities characterized by poverty and limited opportunities. I want to expand the opportunities of families and children who come from the same communities as my family.
Capstone: Our Moral Documents: Budgets and Tax Codes
Our Moral Documents: Budget and Tax Codes (OMD) is both a civic education and mobilization effort. Participants in the OMD sessions will be taught the basics of federal and state level fiscal policy, taxation, and budgets and how these devices affect marginalized communities, the youth, and minority communities. The main highlight of the OMD sessions will be the local budget simulations where participants will be taken through an exercise where they can decide on what kinds of budget and tax policies their local governments will pursue.
