If you had to be any type of bird, what type of bird would you be?

I actually hate birds but if i had to become one, it would be a peacock. They’re very colorful!

What motivates you to be a changemaker in your community?

As a child of Vietnamese Refugees, and growing up in a predominantly immigrant community in Queens, New York City, I’ve seen how the immigration system has directly affected those around me which inspired me to become a refugee and migrant rights activist. Since high school, I’ve engaged in immigrant justice community organizing and policy advocacy efforts which has shown me how activism is a powerful tool to advocate for both change and healing within BIPOC undocumented communities. In the future, I hope to become an immigration or international human rights lawyer continuing to fight for refugee and migrant rights.

My Capstone

Capstone Focus Area: Social Justice Advocacy – SAFEGUARD Act

My capstone proposal is to tackle this global issue surrounding displacement, disarmament and international conflicts, this project will focus on advocacy efforts both on a national level and international level. This project will focus on a specific legislation called the SAFEGUARD Act. The SAFEGUARD act would prevent the United States government from continuing to transfer weapons into war zones and armed conflict areas in the world where displacement is occurring. The second component of this project would be advocating for demining and focusing on cluster munition impacts in Southeast Asia specifically Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
