What motivates you to be a changemaker in your community?

My passion to serve is what drives me to be a changemaker in my community. I get it from my Latinx cultural heritage and my immigrant parents who taught me the importance of extending your hand to those around you. Civil advocacy is how I extend mine, and I am always looking towards where to help next.

My Capstone
Focus Area: Immigration

My objective with my capstone project is to create a pathway for Latinx Higher Education students to advocate in Virginia’s State Legislature. This pathway would become accessible through CASA, a non-profit that advocates for immigrant and working-class families. CASA holds advocacy days where members of the commonwealth engage with their elected representatives to discuss legislation and submit policy proposals. My project would organize Latinx college students from multiple institutions, provide them with advocacy training, and install a pipeline program for students to get involved in CASA’s advocacy days.
