WMTW: Gov. Mills receives RFK Human Rights Award

“I feel it is the responsibility of all Americans to speak in defense of their principles, for the rights of others, and for the rule of law which protects us all.”

Governor Janet Mills was honored with the 2025 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award in Washington, D.C., recognized for her legal advocacy and commitment to civil rights. The award celebrates her successful lawsuit that preserved school nutrition funding for over 172,000 Maine children. Presented by Kerry Kennedy, the award reflects RFK’s legacy of justice and equity which are values that Mills said continue to inspire her public service.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is rebranding to honor the legacy of our founder and hero, Mrs. Ethel Skakel Kennedy. From now on, we will proudly be known as the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
