WJTV 12 News: Medgar Evers at 100: Celebration kicks off in Jackson

On June 26, Jackson, Mississippi kicked off centennial celebrations honoring the life and legacy of civil rights icon Medgar Evers, who would have turned 100 this year. The multi-day tribute opened with community gatherings, public remembrances, and calls to carry forward Evers’ vision for justice.

Kerry Kennedy, president of RFK Human Rights and daughter of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, joined the commemorations, highlighting the deep ties between families who fought, and continue to fight, for civil rights across generations.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is rebranding to honor the legacy of our founder and hero, Mrs. Ethel Skakel Kennedy. From now on, we will proudly be known as the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
