Washington Post: RFK Jr., once a Trump critic on immigration, now could help enforce it

In 2023, during his presidential bid, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s family separation policy, condemning it on social media as a cruel choice forced upon migrants.  However, if confirmed as the nation’s top health official in the Trump Cabinet, Kennedy could find himself at the center of similar immigration debates, facing family separations and refugee resettlement challenges under a potential second Trump administration.

Kerry Kennedy, a human rights activist and sister of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has been and continues to be a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s family separation policy. In a recent interview, she called the policy a “moral stain” and urged her brother not to support any renewed crackdown if appointed to a role in the administration. She emphasized the need to protect children and expressed concerns over broader immigration restrictions, including cuts to refugee resettlement programs. Kennedy stressed that the HHS secretary must fight to preserve resources for refugees and migrant families.
