The Buffalo News: Human rights groups sue Trump administration over arrest of Cuban citizen in Buffalo

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and our partners have filed a lawsuit on behalf of J.M.A., a Cuban asylum seeker wrongfully detained in a New York ICE facility. 

Fleeing political persecution in Cuba for his anti-Communist beliefs, J.M.A. came to the United States in 2023 and did everything the government asked of him while pursuing a legal pathway to citizenship. He holds no criminal record and was gainfully employed with legal work authorization at the time of his arrest. Despite this, he’s been detained for over seven months now.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is rebranding to honor the legacy of our founder and hero, Mrs. Ethel Skakel Kennedy. From now on, we will proudly be known as the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
