Statement from RFK Human Rights on the Forcible Takeover of the United States Institute of Peace

RFK Human Rights and its president, Kerry Kennedy, strongly condemn the recent forcible takeover of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) by elements from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

USIP, established by Congress, is a pillar of American global leadership, advancing peace, stability, and diplomatic strength. The forcible disruption of its operations weakens U.S. influence, undermines our credibility on the world stage, and emboldens our adversaries.

A strong America leads through diplomacy, stability, and the rule of law—not through force against its own institutions. We call for the immediate cessation of these reckless actions, which threaten our nation’s strategic interests and international standing.

RFK Human Rights stands with USIP and all who work to ensure a more just and peaceful world. We must defend the institutions that make us stronger by defending the rule of law and ensuring human rights are respected and protected by all.

New year, new us. Same mission.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is rebranding to honor the legacy of our founder and hero, Mrs. Ethel Skakel Kennedy. From now on, we will proudly be known as the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
