News 15 (KADN): Civil rights groups blame private contractor after sexual abuse accusations at Basile ICE facility

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights recently filed a federal civil rights complaint alleging sexual abuse at an ICE detention center in Basile, Louisiana. Far from being an isolated incident, facilities run by private prison contractors are rife with abuse.

Speaking with News 15, our U.S. Staff Attorney Sarah Decker said, “These facilities are particularly incentivized to abuse people, and this for-profit incentive has shielded ICE and its contractors from accountability in cases like this. We believe that sexual abuse is endemic to immigrant detention and we’ve documented other cases of sexual abuse in facilities across the country.”
