Mississippi Today: Daughters of civil rights heroes, writers hear echoes of past

In Jackson, Mississippi, daughters of civil rights icons Medgar Evers, Vernon Dahmer, and Robert F. Kennedy gathered to share powerful personal stories in honor of what would have been Medgar Evers’ 100th birthday.

Kerry Kennedy, president of RFK Human Rights, reflected on her father’s legacy of courage, recalling how he ran toward the flames of injustice rather than watching from afar. She called on Americans today to do the same, reminding the audience that the fight for justice is far from over.

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
