Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is scheduled to host its 52nd annual Ripple of Hope Award ceremony on Thursday, recognizing five humanitarians who’ve fought for the pursuit of racial and economic equality, social justice, and civil rights.
It’s one of the few times you’ll be able to hear Colin Kaepernick speak publicly, as one of this year’s winners, alongside Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dolores Huerta, Dan Schulman, and Dan Springer.
USA Today was given a copy of Kaepernick’s acceptance speech. In part of it, Kaepernick emphasizes how “radical social transformation isn’t the result of a once-and-for-all act of resistance by a public figure but rather the outcome of many smaller acts of courage and care by the people, freedom fighters in the truest sense, that create a mosaic of hope capable of elevating our society and liberating our people.”
Kaepernick is one of the key figures in the sports social justice movement. He’s been effectively banned from the NFL after kneeling to protest systemic racism in law enforcement and the justice system.
