ABC News: Detention of minors after rollback of protections sparks concern from immigrant advocates

On August 9, Carlos Guerra Leon, an 18-year-old New Yorker with special immigration status, was stopped by federal officers and arrested without a warrant. He was sent to Jackson Parish Correctional Center, an ICE facility a thousand miles from his home. He’s now been there for months – separated from his family, missing work, and thrown into sudden instability.

Speaking with ABC News, our U.S. senior staff attorney Sarah Decker describes Carlos: “He had just graduated from high school this past June. He was diligent and a well-respected worker at a local car wash, and community members have described him as an extremely hardworking, kind, and responsible young person who was dedicated to building a career in a special trade and finishing his education.”
