Pressure to shut down Louisiana detention center mounts with release of reported abuses

Reckon Media highlights a new report co-authored by Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights that documents years of abuse and torture at Winn Correctional Center in Lousiana. Staff attorney Sarah Decker comments on Winn’s history of human rights violations, including abusive use of solitary confinement.

“We very frequently see ICE weaponizing solitary confinement,” she said. “Everyone that we speak to who’s subjected to prolonged solitary confinement has really devastating psychological effects from it, including suicidal ideation.”

New year, new us. Same mission.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is rebranding to honor the legacy of our founder and hero, Mrs. Ethel Skakel Kennedy. From now on, we will proudly be known as the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
