In Memory of Gwen Ifill

“We can’t expect the world to get better by itself”- Gwen Ifill

The Board and staff of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights mourn the loss of Gwen Ifill– an honest, insightful and inspiring voice in Journalism.

Through News Hour and Washington Week, Gwen brought lively, thoughtful discussion and analysis of our nation’s big stories into homes around the country. A multi award winning media professional, accomplished moderator and a beloved mentor to aspiring journalists, she embraced all that is good and vital about journalism and held us to a higher standard. She reminded us of our responsibility to question, to listen, to be informed and to act.

We are especially proud and grateful that Gwen served as a judge for the Robert F. Kennedy Book and Journalism Awards and we look forward to seeing the work of the young people she inspired and for whom she served as a role model.

New year, new us. Same mission.

Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights is rebranding to honor the legacy of our founder and hero, Mrs. Ethel Skakel Kennedy. From now on, we will proudly be known as the Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights Center

While our name is changing, our mission and work remain the same. We will continue to fight injustice, advance human rights, and hold governments accountable around the world in 2026 and beyond.
