Ikechukwu Uzoma

Ikechukwu Uzoma is an international human rights lawyer with extensive experience in civic space issues arising in Africa.

Prior to joining RFK Human Rights, Ikechukwu worked in the advocacy and civic space teams of Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) where he facilitated initiatives aimed at resisting rising authoritarian tendencies around the world, supported efforts to protect international and regional human rights institutions and collaborated on strategic human rights litigation.

An Abia State University alum, Ikechukwu graduated with first class honors from the Nigerian Law School in Lagos in 2014. Before law school, Ikechukwu was a legal researcher for OSJI’s Freedom of Information program in Nigeria. He also worked as a consultant rapporteur for the Nigerian Federal House of Representatives Committee on Reform of Government Institutions.

Ikechukwu obtained a Master of Laws degree from New York University’s Law School, where he worked with the Global Justice Clinic to respond to business and human rights issues arising out of Ghana and Guyana. Following his LL.M, Ikechukwu served as the NYU International Law and Human Rights fellow at the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the United Nations at the headquarters in New York. In this capacity, he worked on operationalizing the UN supported Special Criminal Court in the Central African Republic.

Ikechukwu was named as one of the 100 Most Influential Young Nigerians in 2019 in recognition of his work on accountability for police brutality and impunity in Nigeria.
