On Wednesday, December 14, our very own Isabel Roby will be joined by Centro de Derechos Humanos de la Universidad Metropolitana’s Andrea Santacruz, Centro de Justicia para la Paz y el Desarrollo’s Denisse Montiel, Foro Penal’s Alfredo Romero and Instituto de Justicia Procesal Penal’s Araceli Olivo to discuss and analyze the disproportionate effect that the use of torture has on vulnerable groups, more specifically the vulnerable communities in Mexico and Venezuela, taking into account the contextual differences in both countries.
This panel will explore human rights violations against vulnerable groups, especially women, in Mexico and examine the issues regarding the systematic violations of human rights in Venezuela, given the recent reports of the Fact-Finding Mission for Venezuela on the participation of intelligence agencies in the commission of human rights violations and crimes against humanity, as well as the renewal of its mandate for two more years.
