Andrew Gilmour

Former UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights

Andrew Gilmour served 30 years at the United Nations, often posted in conflict zones in Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. His final positions were in New York as Political Director in the Office of the UN Secretary-General, and finally Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights from 2016-19. He was the executive director of the Berghof Foundation from 2020-25, Germany’s largest and oldest organization focused on peace and conflict around the world. Gilmour is the author of The Burning Question: Climate and Conflict – why does it matter?
