Adnan Karim hails from Nashville, TN and is a first generation U.S. citizen from Bengali parents. Adnan graduated from Middle Tennessee State with a Degree in Political Science in 2009. He then moved to New York and joined City Year as an AmeriCorps member in East New York teaching 5th grade ELA and Math, while also running after school programs. After his year of volunteering, he joined the City Year staff as a Program Manager managing both elementary and middle school partnerships in Queens.
While at City Year, Adnan started his MPA at NYU Wagner with a specialization in International Development. During that time, he left City Year to join buildOn as the New York Program Director leading all of its Service Learning Programs across 17 high schools in Brooklyn and the South Bronx. Additionally, Adnan spent a full year working with Mercy Corps for his capstone project as a Program Associate researching and assisting in peace building initiatives along the border of Uganda and Kenya in post-conflict areas.
While remaining at buildOn, Adnan served as the Director of Foundation Relations and assisted in the organization’s fundraising goals. Most recently, he served as the Chief Program Officer at buildOn for the US Programs. Adnan lives in Spanish Harlem with his girlfriend and 1-year-old black lab puppy.
