Since RFK Human Rights awarded human rights defender Aminatou Haidar the RFK Human Rights Award in 2008, we have conducted on-the-ground fact-finding missions, issued periodic reports detailing the human rights situation in the territory, engaged with the United States government and United Nations to conduct advocacy, closely followed political and social developments in the region, and worked with local civil society organizations to provide capacity-related feedback and amplify the content of the projects, programming, and mandates of a wide spectrum of civil society organizations in Western Sahara.
