San José, March 10, 2017.- Before the imminent signing of the draft of the General Law to Prevent, Investigate, and Sanction Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, by the Mexican Chamber of Representatives, civil society organizations once again expressed their concern that various changes introduced by the Justice and Human Rights Commissions of this Chamber, which would perpetuate the practice of torture and impunity for this abominable crime in Mexico.

In this context, the organizations circulated a second letter directed to the Representatives to change the draft of the Law to meet the highest international standards and respond adequately to situations of torture or other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.
